When to Go to the Emergency Room
The Emergency Department is the right choice when an illness or injury could threaten your life, cause permanent impairment, or requires immediate medical attention. You should go to the ER or call 911 for symptoms such as:
- Difficulty breathing
- Chest pain or pressure
- Heavy or uncontrolled bleeding
- Loss of consciousness
- Seizures
- Serious head, neck, or back injuries
- Moderate to severe burns
- Severe abdominal pain
- Fever in a newborn under three months old
When symptoms are severe or you believe you may be experiencing a medical emergency, don’t wait. Medina Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
When to Choose the Walk-In Clinic
For illnesses and injuries that aren’t life-threatening but need attention sooner than you can see your regular provider, a Walk-In Clinic may be the best option. Common reasons to visit include minor injuries, cuts, sprains and strains, sore throats, flu symptoms, urinary tract infections, rashes, skin infections, eye irritation, and mild to moderate asthma.
The Albion Healthcare Center offers Walk-In Medical Services throughout the week. The Medina Healthcare Center also offers same-day sick care – when able to accommodate.
When to See Your Primary Care Provider
Your Primary Care Provider should be your first stop for routine and ongoing healthcare. This includes annual physicals, preventive screenings, vaccinations, medication management, chronic conditions, and health concerns that develop over time. Having a primary care provider also means having someone who knows your health history and can help coordinate your care.
