NY State of Health: What Does it Mean for You?

NY State of Health, the Official Health Plan Marketplace, is where New York individuals, families and small businesses with 50 or fewer eligible employees can shop for, compare and enroll in health insurance coverage and is the only place to get financial assistance to reduce the cost of your coverage. You’ll have access to a menu of health plans and help finding the plan that is right for you. Health insurance offered in the Marketplace includes a comprehensive set of benefits, called the Essential Health Benefits.

We’re Here to Help.

Experts are available at Orleans Community Health to guide you through the enrollment process, help you find the right health insurance based on your unique needs and see if you qualify for financial assistance.

There are specific enrollment periods based on a number of factors:

Open Enrollment (November-January only) is the traditional period when anyone is eligible to enroll in a Qualified Health Plan.

Special Enrollment allows for people who have had a Qualifying Life Event to enroll in a Qualified Health Plan. You may be eligible to enroll within 60 days of a Qualifying Life Event, such as

  • Loss of insurance (for reasons other than you did not pay your premium)
  • A permanent move to New York State or a move within New York State that makes new health plans available to you
  • Marriage or Domestic Partnership
  • Divorce or Legal Separation
  • Pregnancy certified by a health care practitioner
  • Birth or adoption of a child, or a placement of child in foster care
  • Becoming eligible or ineligible for help paying for your Qualified Health Plan coverage
  • Becoming a citizen, national or lawfully present individual

If you are eligible for Medicaid, Child Health Plus and the Essentials Plan, enrollment is open all year. American Indians and Alaskan Natives can also enroll anytime during the year for any NY State of Health program.

To have one of our Certified Application Counselors contact you about enrolling in health insurance, please fill out contact form.   The Marketplace asks about income and other information to determine what coverage you may qualify for and if you can get help paying for it so additional information may be requested. We keep all information you provide private, as required by law. Providing the info below will allow us to be familiar with your needs prior to discussing your options or setting up an in-person meeting with you.
