    Friends and Family of North Wing,

    Unfortunately, we come bearing news that most of you have expected, although we hoped it would not come down to this again. As of 12/1, we have decided to cease visitation on North Wing for at least two weeks, bringing us to 12/15. We plan to reach back out to all of you as the time gets closer to give any updates on if we are able to re-open visitation at that time.

    This is not due to any COVID cases within the facility, rather the uptick in COVID cases in the community.

    Although we understand the hardship this places on you as family members as well as our Residents, we are continuing to do what is best to protect them from the virus.

    We will continue to do whatever we can to make this process easier for you and the Residents including continuing Facetime visits with our IPads that we have on the unit. If you would like to reserve a particular day/time to do so, please contact me or Activities.

Dear Community Members,

On Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 we received updated guidance from the New York State Department of Health pertaining to visitation in the nursing home. This is an executive order that goes into effect on September 17th, 2020.

The following was taken from the NYSDOH memo:

“Visitors, including long-term care ombudsman, are screened for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 prior to resident access. Additionally, the visitor must present a verified negative test result within the last week (7 days) and visitation must be refused if the individual(s) fails to present such negative test result, exhibits any COVID-19 symptoms, or does not pass screening questions.

Starting September 17th:

  • All visitors must present (on paper) a verified negative test result within the last week (7 days).
  • Without this verification, visitation will not be permitted

We understand this is an added step in the efforts to visit your loved ones but we must maintain strict compliance with the State.  We thank you for your continued cooperation, and we remain committed to your loved one’s care and well-being.

Medina Hospital Lab Draw Station to Open

On Tuesday, May 26th, 2020 lab services at Medina Hospital will re-open by appointment only.

The appointments will be spaced out accordingly to ensure the safety of our patients and to minimize wait times. Temperatures will be taken upon arrival and a mask will be given to each client.

Preregistration is required: please call 585-798-2000 and select option #1.

The Albion Health Center Lab also remains open for services by appointment (585-589-2273) and the Middleport Lab will be opening soon!

Radiology/Imaging/Cardiac Services Available at Orleans Community Health

Radiology continues to be offered at the Albion Healthcare Center – 14789 Route 31, Albion (585-589-2273) by appointment only.

We are also pleased to announce that radiology, imaging, and cardiac services have resumed at Medina Memorial Hospital by appointment only.  Services include CT, ultrasound, MRI, mammography, nuclear medicine and cardiology. A script from your physician and insurance authorization is required. Accommodations will be made for high-risk individuals at designated times. Please call 585-798-8054 to make an appointment.

All patients who enter the hospital or the Albion Health Center will be required to have their temperature taken and will be given a mask.

Based upon the funding and programs available to date patients will not be responsible for COVID-19 test costs. (*Please note that COVID testing is not available at Medina Memorial Hosptial at this time.)

Middleport Lab Draw Station to close on Monday, March 30th

As of Monday, March 30, 2020 the Orleans Community Health Middleport Lab (21 North Main Street, Middleport, NY 14105) will be closed until further notice.

The Albion Healthcare Center Lab (14789 Route 31 and Butts Rd) will remain open from 8am – 4pm (585-589-2273).

  • Nurses with an active license
  • CNAs with certifications
  • Physicians
  • PAs and NPs
  • Nurses who are not currently in school
  • Other people who have medical knowledge in their current jobs and want to help out.
  • Ancillary support staff including: maintenance, security, dietary, housekeeping, some patient care, information technology and office work.
  • We are also looking for volunteers, church groups, etc. who could help with sewing surgical masks and scrubs. We will provide the patterns.

March 20, 2020 – Orleans Community Health Implements More Changes in Response to COVID 19:

With the presence of Coronavirus, Orleans Community Health is continuing to take steps to protect the health and safety of its patients. visitors and staff.

Effective March 23, 2020:

  • All elective surgeries are being cancelled unless deemed medically urgent by the patient’s medical provider. If you have questions, please call Kim Gray, Director of Surgical Department at 585-798-8301.
  • All radiology services including: x-rays, mammography, nuclear medicine, MRIs, etc. will be cancelled. If you have questions, please call Erica Chutko, Director of Imaging Services at 585-798-8039.
  • Albion PT, OT and Speech services will be cancelled.
  • Albion Healthcare Center will remain open by appointment only and for telemedicine.
    • Please call 585-589-2273.
  • The Lab at the hospital will be closed.
  • Middleport and Albion outpatient labs will remain open.
  • Dialysis in Medina and Batavia will continue to provide services.
  • All visitation continues to be suspended except “special circumstances” (e.g. patients receiving end-of-life care, etc.). Such circumstances will be handled on a case by case basis.
  • All associates and visitors will continue to be screened and have their temperature taken upon entering the hospital.

Orleans Community Health is taking these aggressive and prudent measures to limit the spread of Coronavirus in our community and to ensure our health system remains prepared to care for those who are sick and injured.

We continue to work closely with the CDC and local and state health officials to monitor and respond to this evolving situation.

We know all of you are concerned about the spread of COVID-19 (the new coronavirus) being reported in the media and how it may impact us here at Orleans Community Health.  Protecting those entrusted to our care by providing a safe and healthy environment is our top priority.  At this time, we don’t have any cases in our facility.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the office of Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) have recommended a variety of steps that we have been implementing to help reduce the potential for the virus to enter our building.  However, we need your continued help in battling COVID-19.

Based on the latest CDC, CMS and State recommendations and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our patients and residents, effective 3/13/2020, no visitors will be allowed at Medina Hospital, Lake Plains Dialysis Center in Medina and Lake Plains Dialysis Center in Batavia. Patients will continue to be treated and will complete a health screening upon their arrival.

  • Exception: Nursing staff and attending physicians will work with families who have special circumstances, such as a critically ill or injured family member, end-of-life situations, etc. on a case-by-case basis.

Anyone coming to the facility for services will follow the requirements below:

  • Complete a screening prior to having services rendered
  • Limit movement within the facility, do not travel from one floor to another unnecessarily
  • Perform hand hygiene upon entry and exiting the facility

We understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important, and there are a variety of other ways you might consider connecting with them.  These may include telephone, email, text, video chat or through social media. If you believe a visit to the facility is necessary for circumstances other than that described above, we request that you contact one of the individuals below prior to your arrival.

Our facility is following the recommendations of the CDC on prevention steps, including following strict handwashing procedures, and in many circumstances, wearing gowns and gloves when interacting with patients and residents who are sick. We also are staying up-to-date with the CDC recommendations as they are updated.  In addition, Orleans Community Health is in close contact with the local and state health department and are following their guidance.  We will continue to keep you informed as we receive updated information.
